SADAKO WOULD LOVE A SIBLING

Sadako is an “only” child.

I have no plans of giving her a sibling. Having a child is expensive; having more than one child is more expensive!


Sometimes, I do feel tempted to give Sadako a brother or sister. I’m not an “only” child, but it’s easy to understand how some “only” children don’t like not having siblings – how sad it could be to be sibling-less growing up.

We are down south right now with my family to celebrate Sadako’s birthday and it’s amazing to see her bonding and having so much fun with Inigo, her only cousin (so far) on my side. As in they are inseparable. She wants to do everything with him, even when she’s already tired. And when we’re home, we talk about nothing but Inigo.


I’m really, really tempted to reconsider, but no! Ang mahal kaya!

Cousins, same-age relatives, and friends are not the same as siblings but I guess they’d have to do. Who says brothers and sisters need to be blood-related, anyway? There are even times when friends are closer to us than our actual siblings, right?


In the meantime, I am grateful for Inigo’s presence in Sadako’s life. They might not be super close right now and they may not get to see each other regularly or frequently, but I guess he’s the closest thing to a brother that she has. I’m definitely cool with that.

Congratulations to shoe brand TOMS, which now has their flagship store at the Mega Fashion Hall of SM Megamall! I AUDITIONED FOR SMOKEY MOUNTAIN

I loved singing and performing for relatives and guests at home when I was young. One time, when I was about four years old, my mother asked me to sing Tomorrow for our relatives who were visiting. I instantly burst into song. However, after singing the first line with so much passion, I decided to stop and asked to be excused. I went inside my room, did a proper entrance, and then whipped out my milk bottle, which I used as a microphone. I sang “The sun will come out tomorrow” again and finished the song. No doubt about it: even when I was just a kid, I already knew I wanted to sing and perform for others. Fast forward to my high school years. One day, I read in the papers that Ryan Cayabyab was forming an all-male version of Smokey Mountain. Of course, I just had to try out. I didn’t tell my parents about it. MY 3-YEAR-OLD IS ALREADY WEARING A BRA

And it’s Beyonce’s fault. See, Sadako has a thing for playing dress-up. She asks for a bandana or a scarf or any piece of cloth to be wrapped around her head whenever she wants to sing along to her favorite Erykah Badu song, “Bag Lady.” She makes sure she’s wearing her kitten heels whenever she performs Tamar Braxton’s “Love and War.” She grabs this piece of white piece of lacy fabric and puts it around her shoulders whenever she’s copying Christina Aguilera in her American Music Awards performance, where she sang a medley of tracks from her “Lotus” album, starting with “Lotus (Intro).” So going back to Beyonce, my little one discovered the talented star just recently when I popped in a DVD copy of her 2006 concert. It didn’t take long for Sadako to copy the star’s birits, moves, and get-ups.
