MY MORNING ROUTINE WITH SADAKO

I am gone for most part of the day due to work. As much as I want to spend every single of the day with Sadako, I can’t. Well, for now.

Apart from our bonding time every weekend, we also bond every morning, thanks to my getting-ready-for-work routine.

Sadako usually wakes up before I do, and she usually just stays in bed, playing with her MagiClip Disney Princesses. Once she catches me awake, she greets me “Good morning, Plapla” (yes, she calls me Plapla) and gives me a good morning kiss and hug.


We instantly proceed to the kitchen where she watches me drink my apple cider vinegar water, brush my teeth, and wash my face. I then pretend to shoo her when she tries to follow me inside the comfort room when I take my bath.

Afterwards, she watches me slather on beauty products, the sequence of application which she knows by now.

When it’s time for me to dress up, she inserts herself in my top and I have to convince her to “undress” ASAP because I still need to fold the sleeves and I’m running out of time.

Sadako especially likes to help me wear my belt. There have been times when she would catch me in the middle of wearing it or already done with it, and she would demand for me to remove it so she can be the one to do it.


And then there is that kiss before I head out of the condo.

Little things, but they mean a lot considering I am out for most part of the day.

Congratulations to shoe brand TOMS, which now has their flagship store at the Mega Fashion Hall of SM Megamall! I AUDITIONED FOR SMOKEY MOUNTAIN

I loved singing and performing for relatives and guests at home when I was young. One time, when I was about four years old, my mother asked me to sing Tomorrow for our relatives who were visiting. I instantly burst into song. However, after singing the first line with so much passion, I decided to stop and asked to be excused. I went inside my room, did a proper entrance, and then whipped out my milk bottle, which I used as a microphone. I sang “The sun will come out tomorrow” again and finished the song. No doubt about it: even when I was just a kid, I already knew I wanted to sing and perform for others. Fast forward to my high school years. One day, I read in the papers that Ryan Cayabyab was forming an all-male version of Smokey Mountain. Of course, I just had to try out. I didn’t tell my parents about it. MY 3-YEAR-OLD IS ALREADY WEARING A BRA

And it’s Beyonce’s fault. See, Sadako has a thing for playing dress-up. She asks for a bandana or a scarf or any piece of cloth to be wrapped around her head whenever she wants to sing along to her favorite Erykah Badu song, “Bag Lady.” She makes sure she’s wearing her kitten heels whenever she performs Tamar Braxton’s “Love and War.” She grabs this piece of white piece of lacy fabric and puts it around her shoulders whenever she’s copying Christina Aguilera in her American Music Awards performance, where she sang a medley of tracks from her “Lotus” album, starting with “Lotus (Intro).” So going back to Beyonce, my little one discovered the talented star just recently when I popped in a DVD copy of her 2006 concert. It didn’t take long for Sadako to copy the star’s birits, moves, and get-ups.
